Turmeric tea

I consume turmeric in any form I possibly can, at least 2 times a day. I can’t get enough of it. Turmeric, is known as the golden healer.  It is a source of Curcumin which has powerful anti-inflammatory effects and is a strong antioxidant. Unfortunately, curcumin is poorly absorbed into the bloodstream. It helps to consume black pepper with it, which contains piperine, a natural substance that can enhance the absorption of curcumin.  Even just swallowing a couple of peppercorns along with any turmeric will do the trick.

INGREDIENTS

4 cups filtered water
4tbs fresh turmeric, grated (or fermented)
4tbs fresh ginger, grated
1tbs coriander seeds
1tbs cumin seeds
1tsp powdered turmeric (for extra colour)
black pepper - a few good turns (see information below).
1 lemon, 2 Slices and the rest squeezed
honey, to taste
galangal, sliced (optional)

METHOD

Put all ingredients apart from honey into a saucepan, and gently bring to almost a boil.  Just until you see steam starting to arise. The key is to make sure you keep the heat low and slow. Try retain it at this level for 5-10mins.

Turn off the heat, whisk in sweetener and allow to cool for 5 mins.
Then strain into your mug.

To finish, froth up coconut milk with an electric whisk, spoon over the top and sprinkle with a pinch of powdered turmeric and a quick turn of black pepper.

Tip:
Often I make five times the recipe, and re-heat the ingredients with fresh water then I drink it cold, with freshly squeezed orange juice.
